Yoga for Kids: Benefits, Tips and More!
Benefits of Yoga for Kids
Yoga is an ancient practice of physical and mental exercises that originated in India. It is a form of exercise that brings balance to your body and mind.
Yoga helps develop strength, flexibility and endurance. It also helps reduce stress and anxiety, which can benefit kids with ADHD or ADD. Yoga teaches breathing techniques that help calm children down when they are feeling stressed or anxious.
Learning how their bodies move and function
Yoga helps kids learn how their bodies work. They learn what muscles they use when doing different movements or poses, so they can better understand how they need to move their bodies when playing sports or doing other physical activities.
Yoga requires a lot of body awareness which directly correlates with motor skills like balance, coordination and strength training (depending on the type of yoga you practice). These are important skills needed throughout childhood development so by practising yoga regularly your child will have an advantage over other kids who don’t practice yoga at all!
Stress relief and relaxation
Yoga has been shown to reduce stress in adults by lowering levels of cortisol (a hormone produced by the body when stressed) as well as increasing serotonin (a chemical in the brain that helps regulate mood).
Supportive social activities.
Yoga is an excellent way to encourage children to interact with others while they’re exercising. This can be especially beneficial if your child has trouble making friends or has low self-esteem.
Builds self-esteem and confidence.
Yoga helps children build their confidence by allowing them to accomplish things they may have previously thought impossible by themselves or with others’ help. This encourages them to try new things in the future without fear of failure or embarrassment because they know they have what it takes to make it happen!
Promotes healthy sleep patterns.
Yoga helps kids fall asleep faster at night and sleep longer because it calms the mind so they’re less likely to wake up during the night due to anxiety or excitement caused by nightmares or racing thoughts before bedtime.
Improve cognitive function – focus, concentration and memory.
Yoga provides mental clarity and emotional balance which is necessary for any activity or sport. Children who practice yoga regularly have been shown to have calmness in stressful situations (such as school tests) whereas those who don’t practice yoga tend to get more anxious when faced with stressful situations. This may be due to increased serotonin levels associated with practising yoga regularly which leads to greater emotional stability and better social interaction with others around them.
Make it fun!
We’re passionate about making our classes fun and engaging to keep children’s minds focused on the present moment. Whatever that may be causing them stress, such as school and homework, we’ve seen our students better regulate their emotions and response to stress. That’s why we like to keep our classes very dynamic by introducing different types of acrobatic exercises, drills and other fun group activities. Plus, there’s always an abundance of giggles and laughter from the feel-good moments of conquering yoga poses!
